Mobile Access to Social Networks

Twitter, Pownce, PlaceShout, and Jaiku, recently acquired by Google, are gaining steam in the social media realm of mobile social networking tools that allows for snippets of conversations that fit into 140 character chunks to be proliferated to a singular community, as in Special Interest Groups or a large communal group, known as microbloggers that wants to stay connected to tens of thousands of people they have never met, nor are likely to meet.

Let me preface this blog with a comment. If social networking is new to you I strongly suggest that listen to a "Connections #002 - Conversation with a LION" - This is a PodCast with Christian Mayaud - that discusses how the social network of LinkedIn has eveolved and how to become a highly linked in networker.

In the Rueters post, Sinead Carew writes about SpinVox offering tools to user for updating Face Book, the most well known social network, when they are not being sued, using wireless technology, such as a cellular telephone.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Members of social networking services like Facebook will soon be able to update their profiles by simply making a phone call, instead of having to type on a computer keyboard.

All of the microblogging tools have one key element in common, in that they can become a bit overwhelming, in the amount of information that is fed to the subscriber on a regular basis, forcing some users to move back to an RSS type feed for information.

Exacerbating these issues is the move from voice to text, and text to voice, through speech recognition software, like uReach.com, a SpinVox competitor, as well as Nuance Communications Inc, a mobile search and messaging service tool to easily dictate and send email or text messages, create calendar entries, dial a contact, and search the Web for business listings, movie times, sport scores and more, using a Palm Centro Smart Device, being offered by Sprint.

As you add more services that allow users to convert written text into speech, and speech into written text with little to no effort, your building an incredible value proposition for early business adopters that can communicate with millions of wireless social networks within seconds. As an example, Mac Users have the ability to use a tool called Twitterrific, both read and publish posts or "tweets" to the Twitter community website. The application shows a scrolling list of the latest tweets from either your friends or public feeds, which can, again be overwhelming.

In the future, as media converges – especially social media – as I see it; once developers have the ability to stream unwanted contextual garbage, like advertisement, religion, or politics appearing next to the appropriate tweets as content the connected culture of these Social Networks will most assuredly revolt.
